Biography

Fran O’Sullivan is the director of NZ INC (Ltd) – publisher of the newzealandinc.com website which focuses on New Zealand’s business engagement with top markets.

The newzealandinc.com website aims to provide “informed, influential and indispensable” news and commentary for New Zealand companies which are engaged in key offshore markets − like China.

Fran’s own China engagement got seriously underway when she accompanied Prime Minister Dame Jenny Shipley to Beijing in 1999 as one of two business representatives charged with presenting to senior Chinese business leaders to engage their participation in the CEO Summit which New Zealand hosted in Auckland that year. Fran was in the vanguard reporting New Zealand’s free trade negotiations with China. She has interviewed senior Chinese Ministers on the bilateral relationship and reported on New Zealand businesses own developments in China.

One of New Zealand’s most experienced journalists, Fran is also a lead columnist for The New Zealand Herald – New Zealand’s largest daily newspaper – writing predominantly on politics, business and international affairs.

She is a former Editor of the National Business Review – NZ’s leading business weekly and a former Assistant Editor at the New Zealand Herald.

Fran was a founder-director of the New Zealand United States Council established in 2001 to strengthen relations between New Zealand and the United States and continues to serve on the council’s Advisory Board; she is also vice-chairperson of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (NZ).
